In a string of seismic activity detected by the National Seismological Service of Mexico, the Gulf of California, near the coastal region of Loreto, has experienced a series of earthquakes in recent days. Fortunately, these tremors have not been perceptible on land, as they occurred in the depths of the Gulf.

Most of the recorded earthquakes have had a magnitude of 3.9, indicating a moderate level of seismic activity. However, on Monday, February 12, the region experienced two additional earthquakes with a slightly higher magnitude of 4.1, raising concerns among local authorities.

In response to the seismic events, the Civil Protection system of the Loreto City Hall has taken proactive measures.

Starting today, they have initiated drills in elementary schools, aiming to enhance preparedness and response capabilities. Information sessions will be conducted during these drills, providing valuable insights into the nature of the tremors occurring in the Gulf of California.

These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure the safety and awareness of the local population in the face of seismic activity in the region.

The last time an earthquake affected port of Loreto was in January 2018, when several school buildings were damaged.
